At the 11th Congress of the International Association of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology in Montreal, Nils Tore Vethe was awarded the first Patsalos prize. The prize was presented to Vethe by Prof Philip Patsalos and his wife Ellie Patsalos at the opening ceremony of the congress on Sunday, October 4th 2009.
Professor Philip Patsalos and his wife Ellie, London, UK, set up the Patsalos Prize for the best TDM manuscript published in the journal Therapeutic Drug Monitoring in a given two year calendar period, to be awarded at the biannual IATDMCT Meeting. Nils Tore Vethe presented the award winning paper Pharmacodynamics of mycophenolic acid in CD4+ cells: a single-dose study of IMPDH and purine nucleotide responses in healthy individuals, which was coauthored by Sara Bremer, Helge Rootwelt and Stein Bergan, all fom the Department of Medical Biochemistry at Rikshospitalet. This paper was published in Therapeutic Drug Monitoring 2008 Dec;30(6):647-55 (Pubmed ref). The paper was included in Vethe's thesis which he defended in February this year. On accepting the award, Nils Tore Vethe acknowledged the Patsalos for instituting such a prize, since an award on these criteria would convey inspiration for young scientist like himself.
